DESCRIPTION:

Automatic medium and high voltage harmonic filters and power factor correction capacitor systems are designed to automatically switch "ON" or "OFF" to maintain a desired target power factor level as well as maintaining harmonic content to within IEEE-519 standards, under varying load conditions on the medium voltage distribution systems. Each stage of the system is tuned to the same frequency thereby insuring parallel resonance does not occur. In systems where multi-frequency harmonic suppression reactors are employed they are staged so that the lowest frequency stage is energized first and is turned off last. The common practice of placing large static blocks of capacitance or filters at the customers primary voltage level does not offer this type of control. During low load periods the voltage may rise to unacceptable levels due to leading power factor. In addition many utilities cannot handle the additional VARS on their system and are requesting that customers remove their capacitors from operation during times when they are not required. The automatic filter systems address both of these issues without operational or utility problems.

STANDARD FEATURES:

  • Microprocessor based automatic control Control based on power factor, voltage, or current

  • Current limiting reactors for back-back switching

  • Individual [full line voltage rated] capacitor fusing with pop-up indicators

  • Vacuum switches for automatic switching

  • Industrial rated relays

  • Neutral unbalance protection on each individual stage

  • 4 pole ground switch with large viewing window and coordinated key interlock
