Ingalls Shipbuilding, one of the largest employers in Mississippi, required power factor correction to reduce utility cost from Mississippi Power Company. Phaseco provided complete engineering, equipment and installation services for the project. Two automatic, 6,000 kVAR, 15 kV units were designed and installed at their main 115 kV substation to correct power factor to average 98-100%. Because of the physical limitations and electrical requirements Phaseco had to make special provisions for Mississippi Power Company to meter the units as well as special lifting provisions to set the units in place.
