Static or Fixed medium voltage power factor correction capacitor banks are the most often applied metal enclosed power factor correction equipment. They are less expensive than automatic equipment and are well suited where a fixed amount of capacitance is required on a continuous basis. These units are also well suited for large motor starting applications. They are easy to install and require a minimum of set-up time thus not requiring field support personnel. Maintenance is relatively simple allowing most firms to use trained in house personnel or local contractors to perform the required work. These units are available in voltage ranges from 2.4 kV to 35 kV and range in kVAR value from as small as 100 kVAR to as large as 30,000 kVAR.
